Gloom
A downloadable game for macOS
Gloom (Mac port)
The legendary Amiga shooter, rebuilt for macOS.
In 1995 Black Magic squeezed a fast, bloody, texture‑mapped 3D shooter out of the Amiga. This is a faithful Swift port of that game, built from the original released source code. It plays like the original, with the same maps, monsters, weapons and sounds, now running natively on your Mac.
Features
Faithful to the original: the renderer, monster behaviour, collisions and damage are ported line by line from Black Magic's source. They use the original maths and random number generator, so it behaves exactly like the Amiga game.
All 21 campaign levels across three worlds: the Space Hulk, the Gothic Tomb and Hell. Each opens with its original artwork and briefing.
Ten monster types: marines, skinheads, cyborgs, ghouls, phantoms, demons, lizards, trolls, the soul‑sucking death heads and the dragon.
Five weapons, power‑ups that speed up your reload up to mega three‑way shots, and bouncing bullets.
Pickups: health, invisibility, thermal glasses that show enemies through walls, and the "hyper!" power‑up that turns you into a giant.
Gore: the original gibs and blood, with a MEATY or MESSY violence setting.
The original sound and music: 4‑channel Amiga‑style sound effects and the OctaMED title and intermission tunes.
Crisp pixels: the original resolution scaled up with sharp, unblurred pixels, windowed or full screen.
Original options: window size, chunky‑pixel resolution, and textured, shaded or black floors and ceilings.
Continue points saved as you reach each new world.

Gloom was created by Black Magic: programming by Mark Sibly, graphics by the Butler Brothers, music by Kev Stannard. This port is an unofficial fan project based on the source code they released to the public domain 9 years ago and is freely available on GitHub. I make absolutely no claim to ownership of any of the code or assets. This game is being given away completely free.
