Revenge of the Quadra

Revenge of the Quadra is my tribute to a classic Vic 20 game from around 1984. Like some of my other Vic remakes, I loved playing this one as a teenager, and i've tried to make a game closely resembling the original, while taking advantage of modern development skills to improve on it.

Important information for Mac users. 

If you are running OSX:Catalina or above then the game may report an issue stating that it is damaged and should be moved to the trash. The app has been code signed but sometimes the issue will still persist. The way to get the game running if this happens is to extract the app from the zip file and drag into your  applications folder as normal.

Open a Terminal window and type the following command:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine and then leave a space, and then drag the .app file onto the Terminal window so the full path to the file is present. Once you press enter the fix will be applied and the game can then be run normally.

The game has been built for both Intel and Arm chip sets so should run on any Mac, but sometimes you may need to open the app info with finder and tick the "open using rosetta" option.

The Game

Revenge of the Quadra is a fast-moving shoot-em up which requires you to clear 10 levels of increasingly difficult invading aliens. You also need to deal with a constant meteor shower that puts rocks in your way, and try to get the assistance of the Blob to smart-bomb your way to a high score. 

Your mission is to guard the human pods, which frequent the bottom of the screen, from the aliens that will zoom down to try and capture them. If they get caught and reach the top of the screen t hen that's one less human to defend, and one more casualty towards game over. 

The Vic 20 game was a fast and very hard shooter, and my remake is no different, apart from being a bit easier at the start to gently lead you in to certain death. I hope you all enjoy playing the game as much as I did creating it.

Controls:

Esc to quit to title screen.

P in-game to toggle Pause mode.

Other keys are shown on the title screen.

You can control your ship with either the arrow keys and space/shift to fire, or just use any compatible gamepad.
